Western Nostalgia Photo Collection
The photocards in this Photo Collection feature examples of draft horses and the equipment that they powered.
Travel back to a time when horsepower meant bone, muscle and spirit. When transportation required a relationship
with an equine partner or two or eight. When life moved a little slower but with a lot more heart.
“Headed for the Roundup”"

“Old Glory graces the Chuckwagon”
Even the cook needs to show a little patriotism now and again. Goes along with the chili and beans. Those chickens appear a mite rubbery, however. Perhaps dinner ought to be procured elsewhere tonight.

“Chico Firewagon”
The Chico Firewagon is witness to countless conflagrations over its extensive career. The traditional hitch for a firewagon used three horses abreast in the lead and two powerful wheelers closest to the rig. This offered a quick response when summoned. Horses understood their place in the hitch. Like actors on a stage each horse would 'hit his mark' and the harness would be lowered onto his waiting back leaving the fastening of just a few buckles and snaps to complete the hitch. When doors opened horses plunged into their task and the firewagon was on its way.
